The Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) was founded 107 years ago by Sir William Ralph Meredith as the Workmen’s Compensation Board in the year 1914. It is one of the Crown corporations in Canada which comes under the jurisdiction of the Government of Ontario. This agency is responsible for managing the implementation and monitoring of the Workers’ Compensation Act (WCSA) of Ontario. In order to ensure that there are no work-related diseases or accidents at work, the WSIB strives for employee safety by protecting and improving worker safety on the job. There are more than 300,000 workplaces in Ontario that this agency delivers services to, and it reaches approximately 5 million people. Funding for the WSIB comes from three sources: employer contributions, fee income, and investment earnings. The company became very famous due to the infamous campaign advertisement that featured the workers. It is one of the largest insurance organizations which provide workers’ compensation, healthcare facilities, and assistance to help injured workers return to work. Minister of Labour, Training & Skills Development Mr. Monte McNaughton is responsible for the management of WSIB.
